ANNOUNCEMENT OF OPENINGS
TWO TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITIONS – MILD/MODERATE DISABILITIES AND EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION
DEPARTMENT OF SPECIAL EDUCATION AND REHABILITATION

The Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation is seeking outstanding candidates to fill two tenure track assistant/associate professor positions, one with a focus on students with mild/moderate disabilities, the other with a focus on young children with disabilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Doctorate (ABD will be considered) in special education or related field
•    Direct service experience with students with disabilities
•    A history of positive working relationships with teachers, administrators, and faculty
•    Evidence of the potential to be a productive scholar and researcher
•    Evidence of the potential to be an excellent college-level teacher
•    Expertise in application of behavior analysis to education
•    Expertise with either mild/moderate disabilities, or early childhood education

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Evidence of potential for securing external funds
•    At least two years of public school special education teaching experience
•    Experience in technology-enhanced college teaching and electronic distance education (on-line and videoconferencing delivery models)
•    Experience developing and/or coordinating graduate programs in special education
•    Expertise in working with families
•    Expertise in interdisciplinary collaboration
•    Expertise in multicultural/ESL education
•    Expertise in augmentative communication / adaptive and/or assistive technology for young children
•    For the mild/moderate position, expertise in literacy and/or mathematics instruction for students with disabilities.
•    For the early childhood position, expertise in preschool curriculum, and/or language development research with young children with disabilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a member of the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation faculty; this entails:  
•    developing an active line of research
•    teaching on-campus and distance undergraduate and graduate classes
•    supervising practica and student teaching
•    advising and mentoring graduate students
•    participating in departmental and university program development and committees
•    collaborating with other departmental faculty in writing grants for extramural funding
•    One of these two positions will include major responsibility to coordinate the department’s distance masters program.  This includes:
o    Collaborating with other faculty members to develop, adapt and deliver the masters program,
o    Travel to distance education masters program sites to communicate with prospective and current students and personnel,
o    Continuing development and oversight of distance education technology used in the masters program.

RANK/SALARY:
Assistant/Associate Professor.  Salary is competitive based on qualifications.  An excellent fringe benefit package is provided that includes medical and disability insurance and retirement benefits that amount to approximately one third of the salary.

THE DEPARTMENT:
The Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation offers degree programs at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels.  The bachelors program prepares graduates to teach students with mild/moderate disabilities, severe disabilities, and/or young children with disabilities.  The department has three masters programs:  Master of Science (M.S.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Special Education, and Master of Science (M.S.) in Rehabilitation Counseling.  The department sponsors a doctoral (PhD) program in Disability Disciplines which includes specializations in (1) special education, (2) applied behavior analysis, (3) rehabilitation counseling, and (4) disability studies, (5) speech/language pathology.  The Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation is recognized nationally for its personnel preparation and research.  The department faculty, along with colleagues from the university-affiliated Center for Persons with Disabilities, have a well-established record of obtaining research and training grants, national and international consulting, editorial work on national journals, and participation in professional organizations.  The Department has consistently ranked in the top 20 nationally in both Special Education and Rehabilitation.  More information on the Department can be found on the website at: sped.usu.edu.

THE COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY
Utah State University (USU), a land-grant university, is a Carnegie Research Extensive Institution, a designation held by only 3% of universities in the United States. THE REGIONAL CAMPUS & DISTANCE EDUCATION SYSTEM
Utah State University’s regional campuses and distance education (RCDE) has been a pioneer in distance education for over 90 years helping to fulfill the University’s land grant mission.  The system reaches students throughout Utah using a variety of technologies and extension site facilities.  Courses are offered in many programs leading to undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as certificates and endorsements.

THE REGION
Logan is located in Cache Valley (population ~125,000) in the mountains of northern Utah, 80 miles north of Salt Lake City. It is at the mouth of Logan Canyon, a scenic gateway to a wide variety of recreational opportunities. There are forest service campgrounds and extensive fishing, biking, hiking, and skiing opportunities within a few miles of campus. Local schools have a reputation of being strong academically and housing costs are moderate. Logan boasts a large regional hospital and excellent medical and dental care services.
